UCET Trip Advisor

Howdy Doody,

Here are the details for our next Thursday night trip;

Rhyd Alyn /  The Milwr Tunnel
This is a trip through Rhyd Alyn down to the tunnel to refuel the train and mooch the mine. There are some holes in one adit level with fixed ropes to assist (you should consider using cow’s tails across these) and you do need to be fit to get back up the ladders (about 24 of the buggers â€" it’s a long way down). You will get wet.

Location : Rhyd Alyn
Meet Place : Car Park by the old Chapel
Meet Date : Thursday 3rd March 2022
Meet Time : 6:30pm-6:45pm onwards
Suitability : Not suitable for 1st time novices unless very fit and responsible
Requirements : Wellies, overalls, helmet, lamp, gloves, (cow’s tails)

Link to Parking: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.182912,-3.2035865,3a,75y,203h,71.85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sW23B7Ga2vskautwtwgHXrQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en-GB

Nearest Postcode : CH7 5NJ

The trip involves a substantial amount of adit passageway (perhaps a kilometre in total), the entrance will see water go over your wellies and the level after the first section of ladders will see water over your knees. It is likely (due to the time of year) that there will be water falling down the laddered stopes in the bottom quarter of the laddered descent. Going down 24 ladders isn’t so difficult â€" going back up them is â€" please keep that in mind.

Thanks !

See you soon…..

:)

Ian

Are you fit enough to ascend 20+ ladders over 400+feet?

I have to say it buggered me the first time I did it. Only you knows "you" though  :silly:

I would advise cowstails, preferably with a harness for the traverses over deep pits which are easy to do but it is advisable to clip into the fixed ropes over them as a precaution.  The trip starts with a short ladder down to the adit then this is a quite a long walk before six longish ladders down to the next level with the traverses.  This is followed by another six or so ladders down to a short level before climbing down some new fixed ladders in a big stope down to the Milwr Tunnel.  The descent to the tunnel will take about an hour.

Have you got a caving belt yet? You’ll need one to use cows tails.
You won’t need them though
