Post by: Ian A on Nov 19, 2019, 04:33 PM
Hi Folks,

The next trip details are;

Location : Poacher’s Cave
Meet Place : Cilcain Bridge Car Park
Meet Date : Thursday 21st Nov 2019
Meet Time : 6:30pm-6:45pm
Requirements : Wellies, overalls, Lid/Lamp, gloves (You will get wet and muddy â€" you should bring a change of clothes)

Notes :
A great trip for cavers of any amount of experience (from “none” to “I’ve done it all”). An opportunity to see the Big Boss, clandestine cave fish and, of course, your wonderful and eternal colleagues of UCET. On this occasion we may have a reporter from the Daily Post with us. Also, we have some newer members who will no doubt be thrilled!!!

It would be really handy to know if you are coming (no worries if you aren’t or don’t know).

See you soon…..

Mike is on holiday and may not be home in time for this trip if this is the case this one should be put off
until he gets home, this is a 330ft deep on 1 rope theres has been only 3 people who have done this depth in 1 go in a wet shaft it is the same as doing gaping gills main pitch, it is a big undertaking and in my opinion it would be safer all round if a 2nd rope dropped on a pully system just in case as any problems
occur mid pitch the person could be hauled up and communication signals are restricted at this depth in other words unless you are fit with the right gear and done this sort of depth do not try to be a hero.
I am not trying to put people off caving but to just beaware of whats involved as there is no communication between the bottom and the top without 2 way radio,s you must have a  competent srt person who can ascend  this shaft if there is no one on the surface this is one of the reasons we once had a winch on here it was
not about getting time it was about getting up, if a party of 4 were down  it would take the fittest about
half an hour up and up to 1 hr for  the slowest, rescue from mid pitch without a surface crew would be next to impossible and in reality hung up in theses conditions for 2 hrs or more your life would start to ebb fast  I have been in this situation with my fellow cavers and when someone wants to go to sleep on a wet cold pitch means they have not got much time left and its f..ckin frightening for all so please have
a 2nd rope in place and at least 3 on the surface in case help is needed, mike is a top of the range when it comes to srt  and one off the best but he cannot be next to all on this descent if you are not confident tell him because you risk his life if you get it wrong,i just want you all to be safe. mick

I agree with you mick.
I think it should be double ropped
So that every member goes down with a competent srt person up and down that way there is expert help just feet away.

Mick, I think this is the first thing you have ever said in all the years I've known you that I've actually agreed with:
