Title: THURSDAY TRIPS 11th APRIL
Post by: Stephen Davies on Apr 06, 2019, 04:48 PM
Hi folks,

Thanks go to Tom and Adam K for putting forward and posting these trips.

TRIP No. 1: OHA

This is to allow Tom to continue measuring and mapping the system.  He will start at Bowl passage(near the entrance) before venturing further into the mine. He could do with bodies to help him. Also a good opportunity to see how it is done if you are interested and spend a little time appreciating the cave system itself.

MEET TIME: 6:30 -45PM

MEET POINT: Cilcain/Pantymwyn bridge car park opposite the caravan park.

EQUIPMENT: Caving suit/overalls, wellies/boots, gloves, helmet and lamp, change of clothes and a towel (you will get wet[ish]).

TRIP No. 2: MAESHAFEN MINE.

A good explore for those that do not fancy OHA or crawling through water (like Adam K).

MEET TIME: 6:30 - 45PM

MEET POINT: The triangle in the centre of Maeshafen village opposite the Miners Arms. Follow the signs for the Miners Arms and you should net miss the triangle!!

EQUIPMENT: Caving suit/overalls, wellies/boots, gloves, helmet and lamp, change of clothes and a towel (you will get muddy).

It would be very helpful on this one if you could indicate which one you will be going to and also if you are likely to be running late.

Enjoy,

Steve.

OHA for me too.

For those of you coming to OHA, I'd highly recommend gloves. If you plan to touch techy bits, they're so much easier to operate with clean hands :-)

I'll be at the bridge closer to 1845 :-)

Is there a non SRT option on this Tom as I've not practiced any for quite some time particularly if mud throws in potential for problems?

I'd rather just be a dick than a dick that needs saving and will go digging instead if not?  I'm NEVER going in that other shit hole Maeshafn ever again, it's like that, that's the way it is!!!

Thanks

Hi Shan, there is no SRT for the OHA trip. Just the entrance ladder - may throw ladder down sweeties mock rescue pitch but mainly to see what gear is needed for rigging :-) I have other bits and pieces to tidy up in there too so plenty to do without pitches.

See you at OHA.

Need any gear Tom?

FB message me if so.

Shan, was that you I blatently ignored yesterday on Cefn Bychan Road? I was miles away and after I drove past Sarah said 'That was Shan.' I think I was looking right at (through!) you!

Wouldn't mind seeing how you map a cave.

Hi all, I'm really sorry but the maeshafn trip is cancelled. My car has broke down so now I'm careless. Sorry.

Thanks for help on Thursday :-) was a good refresher on using the Disto and most of all Topodroid ( it's been a while). Will get it added on to main survey and drawn up over weekend hopefully and share link.

If anyone is genuinely interested in surveying and the processing afterwards then let me know as I can share some docs with you :-)
