Title: Traveling up from London, any chance of a trip?
Post by: James H on Aug 10, 2018, 12:27 PM
HI ALL! My partner and I are coming to Snowdonia from the 21st to the 25th of August and would be so happy if someone could take us on a worthwhile trip or maybe have some suggestion's as I have never done anything in North Wales!

We are Mendip cavers coming up from London!

Thanks! James

Copy email below from James ...   :)
Hi There!

I am visiting North Wales in the next few weeks and hoped if there is the possibility that my girlfriend and I could join the club on a one off visit or...if anyone from the club would want to go caving mid week?

We are regular caver's from the club MCG Mendip and have never been in any caves or mines in North Wales and would love to use this chance, We especially want to get into a Mine with someone who knows how to route find on a longer trip etc.

We are BCA Insured, Simple SRT and some Technical SRT and Rigging and have caved for a few years.

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks!
James,

Could you give an idea which days/dates you would like to go caving ....

(Or are you flexible for any of the dates (would you prefer to avoid the first and last days))

 ;)

More info from James ....

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply,

I am staying at a campsite 10mins from Snowdon and could cave on the days 22nd - 26th but the Thursday evening sounds good if we could tag along?

As for cave or mine, I have not done any large mines so I would prefer a mine but a visit to either would be great!

As for difficulty, something challangeing but not to extreme!

I'll keep an eye out and hope to hear from you!

Thanks
How about something Friday evening? Or if it was the weekend what would you suggest? I have never done anything in N Wales so my knowledge is limited....

Parc Mine looks good!

I could take them in Parc Mine, which is conveniently near - just a trip along level 2 and up to Endeans...
Might have to put a safety line over the 'rail traverse'  :cheer:

What's wrong with oha or the milwr tunnel

I really don't mind! I don't mind a drive to the cave either, we're staying in Snowdonia so I presume I would have to drive to nearer Chester.

Milwr tunnel looks very interesting. I'm happy with your suggestions here if anyone wants to pencil in a trip!

We are there all week so could do a weekday evening/day or weekend but ideally would like to do say a Thursday.

How about a trip to Parc Mine as a "definite" and leave the other days and trips "available" for more ... ?

If Les is over too, there is an opportunity to do two trips.

How about Friday the 24th for Parc Mine (day time)?

Maybe a different trip on Saturday with Les ...

Friday the 24th for Parc Mine in the day is perfect! Any rough idea on time and a meet location for the car parking?

If there's another trip going on Saturday that will be fine too!

Thanks guys!

Dave,

Do you want to run the Parc Mine trip (time, meet up etc.) and I will drum up a few more for support ...

Les,

Are you up for Friday (Parc Mine) and do you want to make a suggestion for Saturday?

 ;)

Les,

Do you fancy OHA on Saturday?

Jason ... it's a Glacial cave; 11 hours from one end to the other and back (no chance of doing it all on the day). It is a grade 5 but prolly won't go past grade 3. Probably (need to confirm) will need SRT depending on how far the trip goes.

I'm out of the country so can't make it but the 1st rail traverse at the junction already has a safety line :)

Friday 24th is fine by me. Meet at the Hafna Car Park for 11.00.

Trip will visit all of level 2, the rise to Cwffty, Llanrwst New Shaft (to see the angle bob etc.) and another couple of areas which are a bit more awkward. Cowstails recommended. Be underground about 3 hours (more if lots of photos needed) so take butties. If people want to go down to level 3 then full SRT gear is needed - but note that this will make a very long day of it and accidents are more likely if people are tired.

Snakes and Ladders is on the Agenda, providing the weather is better...

Parc Mine for Friday works for me

Be aware that mobile coverage in the Gwydyr forest area is really poor. I have been caught out by this when i tried to cancel a call out. There is a signal down the road in Llanrwst.

I have set up another thread with the Parc Mine trip (copied links etc) and circulated an email to all members past and present.

There are 5 people going so far (at the time of making this post) whom are all listed on the thread. I expect more to be added  ;)

If we can firm up a time and meet place for Snakes and ladders, I will do the same for that.

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but it does seem like there is a few of us around on this week, so we might be able to entertain our guests between us? I think that Rostam is also about this week?

I'm traveling up from London on the 19th

Tuesday - Alderley Edge helping to dig a new level
Wednesday - Zip world
Thursday - UCET caving - OHA!!!
Friday - Parc mine
Saturday - Not planned
Sunday - Not planned

Wouldn't mind nipping up a mountain at some point, I've never had a crack at Crib Goch....
